Protecting children at risk of abuse and neglect

The NCRC is committed to protecting children at risk of abuse and neglect and providing victims of child abuse and their families with services they need.

 

Legal basis: Child Welfare Act, Article 10-2, Paragraph 2, Subparagraph 6, and Article 22, Paragraph 3, Article 29-4, Paragraph 3; Enforcement Ordinance, Article 24, Article 26-9; Act on Special Cases Concerning the Punishment, etc. of Child Abuse Crimes

    • Creating guidelines for CPS agencies and operating working groups.
  • Research on child abuse
    • Researching ways to prevent child abuse and the effects of intervention on abuse victims

    • Promoting partnerships with the Office of Court Administration, Supreme Prosecutors’ Office, National Police Agency, and Office of Education to prevent child abuse
  • Development and assessment of child abuse prevention programs
    • Promoting family reunions for victims of child abuse

    • Developing advanced training for CPS workers and shelter employees
  • Education and publicity on preventing child abuse
    • Education on preventing child abuse and public awareness campaigns

What is child abuse?

  • “Child abuse” refers to any physical, emotional, or sexual maltreatment or neglect by adults, including caregivers, resulting in actual or potential harm to children’s health or wellbeing (Child Welfare Act, Article 3, Paragraph 7).
